Hoops Preview - Arizona State

Now with the Arizona Wildcats out of the way, the University of Washington Huskies (15-7, 5-5) will turn their attention to the Arizona State Sun Devils (16-7, 6-4) Saturday night. The game is set for 7:30 and will be held at Bank of America Arena.

Although expectations weren't high for Arizona State heading into the season, they shot out of the gate with wins against Western Illinois, Texas State, TCU and San Francisco before losing to Duke. Their other wins came against LSU, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Delaware State, San Diego State, UC Santa Barbara, USC Upstate, Washington, Washington State twice, Oregon, Oregon State and Stanford.

Besides Duke, they have lost games to Baylor, BYU, UCLA, USC, Arizona and California.

With their 6-4 conference record, they are also currently in a first place tie with California, Arizona and UCLA.

Like so much of the Pac-10 this season, the Sun Devils have a roster comprised heavily of underclassmen with a total of seven freshmen and a sophomore.

Leading the way for them so far this year has been Rihards Kuksiks, a 6-foot-6 junior guard/forward. He is averaging 12.6 points and 1.1 steals per game on 44 percent shooting from the field.

Perhaps the most effective player this season for Arizona State has been that of Eric Boateng, a 6-foot-10, 245-pound senior center. Although he is only averaging 8.1 points per game, he is boasting a 65 percent field goal mark and is also averaging 6.7 rebounds per game.

As a team, the Sun Devils don't make many mistakes, averaging 11.7 turnovers per game. They average 69.6 points a game on 46 percent shooting from the field, allowing only 58 points to be scored on them per game. Also they average 7.2 steals per contest.

Next up for Washington after this weekend will be a huge road trip to the Bay Area, where they will take on the California Bears (14-8, 6-4) on Thursday. Gametime is 6 p.m. on ESPN.
