2011 Spotlight: OL Thomas Gomez

The state of Washington is known for producing offensive linemen and one of the rising prospects available to sign in February of 2011 is Graham-Kapowsin's Thomas Gomez. Dawgman.com spoke with the big and athletic offensive lineman and he updated us on things...

Gomez is an athletic lineman who wrestles, plays basketball and will go out for track this spring.

"This will be my first year ever doing track," Gomez told Dawgman.com recently. "I'll throw both the shot and discus. It's mainly just to keep myself in shape for football because after track is over we have spring football so that's really what my focus is."

Last year, while playing left guard and helping lead the Eagles to the state playoffs where they lost to highly ranked Marysville-Pilchuck in the first round. He earned MVP honors for the 4A SPSL South league and received First Team All-SPSL recognition on both offense and defense.

Recruiting has been steady since the beginning of his junior season with Oregon State, Washington State and Washington all talking to him.

"I've talked to Coach (Dan) Cozzetto, coach (Joel) Thomas and coach (Mike) Cox at different times," Gomez said. "I'm just getting to know them and they are getting to know me. It's been good so far.

"Growing up I always liked Washington and Oregon. They are the schools I always followed."

Gomez has been working on his strength and agility this winter, posting a 5.0 forty time while benching 185 pounds 30 times and squatting 430 pounds and he's gotten it done in the classroom as well as in the weight room.

"Schools all like me as a student and my lifting numbers," Gomez said. "I'm a hard worker, so that's another thing they seem to like about me."

Gomez will combine with 2011 WR Jamaal Jones and 2012 QB Drew Austin to form a potent Eagles attack next fall.

We'll continue to keep track of Gomez over the coming weeks and months as recruiting continues to move along.
