With the game tied at 9 going into the bottom of the ninth, Jacob Lamb led off with a line single to left. Meehan then hit a shallow fly ball to left field but Bobby Coyle dropped it for the Bulldogs' fifth error of the game, putting runners at first and second. David Bentrott then attempted to move up the runners with a sacrifice, but pitcher Taylor Garrison fielded the bunt and threw to third to force pinch runner Doug Cherry. After pinch hitter Brady McGuire struck out looking, Boyer came up and lined a 2-2 pitch from sixth Bulldog pitcher Greg Gonzalez to right field, scoring Meehan, who just did beat the throw home by Brennan Gowens.
Fresno State began the wild, seesaw affair by taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two out solo home run to right center by Danny Muno.
The Huskies tied the game in the bottom of the first when Chase Anselment grounded a single to center to score leadoff batter Andy Smith.
After Fresno State went up 3-1 with two runs in the top of the second, the Huskies responded with three of their own in the bottom of the frame to go up 4-3. Boyer singled to score Bentrott; a throwing error by center fielder Dusty Robinson allowed Smith to score; and a single by Pierce Rankin plated Boyer.
The Bulldogs took advantage of an error by third baseman Lamb to score twice in the top of the third and regain the lead at 5-4. Lamb dropped a routine pop up by Jordan Ribera, and two batters later Trent Garrison drove a 1-2 pitch from second Husky pitcher Adrian Gomez over the right field wall for his second homer of the season.
Again the Huskies answered Fresno State with two runs in the bottom of the third to regain the lead at 6-5. Caleb Brown singled and Lamb doubled. One out later Bentrott drove in Brown with an infield single, and when shortstop Isacc Vivas made a bad throw to first, Lamb scored.
Fresno State tied the game in the top of the fourth at 6 but the Huskies went back up 7-6 on a double by Rankin and single by Anselment. The Huskies added single runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth, on Rankin's first homer of the season, to increase the lead to 9-6, but the bullpen could not hold the lead. The Bulldogs rallied to tie the game at 9 with three runs in the top of the eighth on a run scoring single by Garrett Weber and two run double by Robinson.
Forrest Snow (1-0), the fifth Husky pitcher, got the win with one scoreless inning of relief. He did not allow a hit while walking one and striking out one. Taylor Garrison (1-1) suffered the loss for the Bulldogs.
The teams resume the three game series at Husky Ballpark on Saturday, with first pitch at 2 p.m.
