Dawgs make offer to Mission Viejo LB

He's one of the top linebackers in California and recently Washington offered Mission Viejo's Tre Madden. Dawgman.com caught up with the talented defender recently and he updated us on things and gave us some thoughts on the Huskies and what their offer so early in the process means...

Madden was outstanding for the Diablos on the defensive side of the ball, leading them with 115 tackles, one sack and one interception and earned All-CIF First Team, All-State, All-League as well as Defensive Player of the Year honors for his efforts. However, his performance on the stop unit wasn't his only contribution to a team that went 12-1 on the season.

"I also played some quarterback for us," Madden told Dawgman.com recently. "It was mainly when we used the 'Wildcat' and I ran it mostly. I had 30 carries for 246 yards and had three touchdowns running and two passing."

With Madden's all-around talent, he also possesses outstanding strength and athleticism, posting a 4.5 forty time and a 34-inch vertical last summer while putting up 350 pounds on the bench.

Washington was the first school to make him an offer and he said that puts them squarely at the top of his list at this point.

"I actually haven't even spoken to the (Husky) coaches yet," Madden said. "I got the offer in the mail and it was great because it was my first and with my teammate Michael Criste going there, he's already telling me how great it is up there and how much he wants me to join him.

"Washington was always high on my list, but now that they've offered, they are right at the top. I want to wait a while though. I'm getting looks from USC, Oregon and Colorado right now and I'm going to go to the Nike combine in April and the USC 'Rising Stars' camp too.

"I might go up to Washington's too. I definitely want to get up there for an unofficial visit. I might go during spring ball or possibly in the summer."

Madden said he plans to take all of his visits before he makes his decision. He also noted that pretty much every school recruiting him likes his abilities as a middle linebacker but he said he's open to playing outside as well.

We'll continue to keep track of Madden's progress as the weeks and months move along and we'll update news as it happens with him.
