Charles talks recruiting

It's been a while since we had been able to talk with Stanwood (Wa.) OL Dexter Charles. caught up with the athletically gifted line prospect recently and he updated us on his visit to Pullman in February as well as his plans for the spring and summer…

"It's been a good time," Charles said when asked about the recruiting process. "Things have been going great. I have offers from Washington and Washington State right now and Oregon says they are close to offering me, but they want me to come down for their Junior Day on May 1st so they can meet with me and talk to me."

Charles plays both ways for Stanwood and is open to playing on either side of the ball.

"Washington and Oregon both like me along the offensive line somewhere, but Washington State likes me as a defensive tackle," Charles said. "I visited them back in February and had a great time. Honestly, I was a little surprised how much I enjoyed it and I really bonded with coach (Malik) Roberson.

"I've been to Washington a few times and I'll probably go down for at least a couple of their practices. I'm going to Oregon's Junior Day on May 1st so I won't be at Washington's spring game and then I'll do the Nike camp the day after Oregon's spring game down there."

Charles said he'd like to take in at least one of Washington's camps this summer, but a lot depends on when his team camp is.

"Last year I wanted to go to the ‘Rising Stars Camp', but I went to our team camp instead," Charles noted. "I went to their lineman camp though and really enjoyed myself. I got to know the coaches pretty well and it was cool getting the coaching.

"I'll do at least one of the camps, but right now I'm not sure which one. I'll need to work out my schedule.

"I talk to coach (Jeff) Mills all the time. He and I have really gotten to know each other really well and (Washington) has shown me how much they like me and how much they want me to part of the program. I like them a lot, but I haven't been able to travel much in my life so I'd really like to take all of my trips after my (senior) season, but if I feel really comfortable someplace and feel like it's the right decision then there is a slight chance I could commit somewhere."

We'll keep track of Charles' progress and update things as they happen.
