Is Tupou close to a decision?

When you play 2A football, in order to get noticed by D-1A football programs, you had better be the best athlete on the field on game-by-game basis and Archbishop Murphy (Everett, Wa.) DE Taniela Tupou is just such a player. He's got three offers to his name and more schools showing heavy interest, however recently he told he could be close to making a decision...

"I've sorta taken a break from recruiting over the past few weeks," Tupou told Tuesday evening. "It was just getting hectic and I wanted to concentrate on school, so I haven't really talked to a lot of coaches recently."

Tupou currently holds offers from Washington, Washington State and BYU and in February he visited Oregon to meet with the coaches and to see the school and campus and the Ducks told him they like what he has to offer as well.

"I met with coach (Steve) Greatwood and he said they all liked me and he said he wanted to offer me," Tupou said. "When I went down there the coaches were all gone except for coach Greatwood, so I still need to meet up with the rest of the coaches like the D-line coach and coach (Chip) Kelly."

With all of the attention, Tupou seems to have become a bit weary of the recruiting process and could be close to making a decision.

"Honestly, I'm really high on U-Dub," Tupou said. "But I haven't seen schools like Washington State or BYU yet so I'm not really sure right now.

"I would really like to end things just to have the decision made and then I can just concentrate on school and getting ready for my senior season."

Tupou plans to take the SAT for the first time on May 2nd, but had also hoped to go down for the Oregon Nike Camp that was to be held that weekend.

"I might have to re-arrange my schedule, so I don't really know right now," Tupou said. "I'm going to go to the All-Poly camp and I'm going to Chicago on June 6th for the Under Armour camp and then the Washington Rising Stars camp.

"One of the goals I set for myself is to make one of the All-Star games so I'm really trying to get out there and show the people who make those decisions what I can do."

We'll have more from Tupou in the coming weeks as he gets closer to making his decision.
