Huskies and Stanford at the top for Hopkins

He's one of the top athletes in the state of Washington and resides east of the mountains, usually a hotbed for the Washington State Cougars. However, Gonzaga Prep (Spokane) DE/TE Charlie Hopkins told Dawgman.com recently that the Huskies, along with the Stanford Cardinal, lead for him, but he also noted he's a ways away from making a commitment...

"Things have been going good for me," Hopkins told Dawgman.com. "I've just been working out, doing what I do and checking out some schools."

One school that got a visit earlier this month was Washington, a school he knows pretty well due to the fact his sister is a student there.

"Since my sister goes there I came over for the USC game last year," Hopkins said. "It was great. I was down in the corner and when they won it was nuts. I thought about going down there (on the field), but I decided just to celebrate up in the stands."

Recruiting has been on a steady upward climb for the talented Eastern Washington prospect and when asked about reports from a little while ago he confirmed he has two schools on top.

"Washington and Stanford are definitely my top two," Hopkins said. "With Stanford, academics is the big thing, but with Washington my sister goes there and I know a lot about the program. I really like the staff a lot and feel like their program is on an upswing with the way they played last year and how they look this year, at least from what I saw at practice."

Besides his offers from the Huskies and Cardinal, he also has offers from Washington State, Oregon State and Idaho and he said he could be close to offers from Oregon and Boise State as well.

Hopkins and his teammate, RB Bishop Sankey, who has a few D-1 offers already himself, talk frequently about playing at the same school in college.

"He and I talk about it pretty much every day," Hopkins said. "We have a couple offers from the same schools and Washington is a school we're both considering.

"I'm not saying it's for sure, but I think that gives Washington a very good chance."

Hopkins noted that every school recruiting him is looking at him as a defensive end and said he may attend Washington's Rising Stars camp and Washington State's camp as well, although he said he hasn't registered for either one at this point.
