Quotes - Matthew Lyons

Scout.com was lucky enough to catch up with Matthew Lyons shortly after his verbal commitment to the University of Washington, and the 6-foot-2, 190-pound linebacker prospect from Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, Calif. was in a hurry to get things going.

Lyons, who was offered by the Huskies a couple of weeks after Signing Day for 2010, decided to commit to Washington around 5 pm this evening after their final spring practice. The Huskies' spring game is Friday night at Husky Stadium.

"I wanted to do it sooner, but my Mom wanted me to see the campus and stuff," Lyons told Scout.com. "It was actually better than what I thought it was going to be. They gave us a whole little tour of it. We saw everything in-depth. The first thing I noticed was the weather. I thought it would always be cold, but when I got here some sun started showing up. I also noticed that it was also more academics-based than what I thought it would be."

Lyons is being recruited to play OLB/LEO or strong safety for Washington. As a junior he had 135 tackles, six fumble recoveries, three sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and a touchdown for the Dons. He had no other offers at the time of his commitment.

"I told coach Sark (UW Head Coach Steve Sarkisian), and he was excited," Lyons said. "I wanted to make an early decision, because I want to enroll early. We just talked about getting me up there as soon as possible."

Lyons would enroll next March in time for spring football, just like frosh LB Victor Burnett did this past spring for the Huskies.
