Ross, Jones to UW

Terrence Ross, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Jefferson High School in Portland, Ore. announced that he has signed to play basketball with the University of Washington. But his news wasn't the biggest surprise of the day.

"No one knows, because I haven't made a decision yet," the 6-foot-8 All-American G/F, a teammate of Ross' at Jefferson, said just before making his selection. "This is me picking right here."

After touching the Kansas hat to his left, he went nearly all the way to the other end before picking up the black hat and choosing the University of Washington, ending arguably the biggest recruiting day ever for Washington hoops.

Ross, who was sitting about 10 feet behind Jones, jumped up while the rest of the crowd - including roughly 30 members of Jones' family - celebrated.

"It's an established school," Jones said of Washington. "I didn't want to go to a school that wasn't ready for next year with off the court situations and stuff like that. I wanted to be close to home.

"I've wanted to play with Terrence Ross since the eighth grade. And coach (Lorenzo) Romar is like a father figure to me."

"After my last visit, I decided to sign with the University of Washington," Ross said during his portion of the press conference. "I'd like to thank the team. They are like my brothers. Every practice, every game, after the games - I love you guys. I'd like to thanks all the coaches too for helping me and preparing me for the next level."'s Kim Grinolds is at Jefferson High School and will have more from Jones and Ross later today.
