Kessler talks about Husky offer

When last we spoke with Bakersfield (Ca.) Centennial QB Cody Kessler, he was heading north to take in a practice at Washington and to meet with the Husky coaches. On Thursday that meeting took place and he came away with an offer, which places the Dawgs "right at the top" of the talented signal-caller's list…

"I got up there and got to see a lot of stuff," Kessler told Sunday afternoon. "I got to see the campus and the educational stuff and then I got to see the facilities and meet with the coaches.

"Me and my mom and my grandpa were all up there and we got to sit down with coach (Steve) Sarkisian and while I was there he said he was offering me a scholarship.

"I was real excited. They've been a school I've had my eye on for a while and getting to know coach (Doug) Nussmeier and coach (Jeff) Mills, I mean, I really liked the school so now to have them offer me, that puts them right at the top of my list."

Washington's offer joins his eight other offers -- Alabama, Arizona State, Boise State, Fresno State, New Mexico State, Pittsburgh, San Diego State and Washington State – and while he says they are right at the top, that doesn't mean he's going to be making a decision anytime soon.

"I want to get to some camps to check out the schools I've been looking at a little bit more," Kessler said. "I'm planning on going to Washington's camp and Alabama's. Probably USC and UCLA's as well and then probably Boise State too.

"I'd like to decide before my senior season, but I'm not going to choose just to get it over with. I want to be ready to do it, so if it goes into the season, then I'll wait to make sure I make the right decision."

While at Washington, Kessler said he had a chance to talk with all three of the Husky quarterbacks, but he said getting to talk to Jake Locker meant a lot.

"He and I spent some time chatting about things," Kessler said. "He said it's a good school and a great program and that the coaches are great. I also talked with Nick (Montana) and Keith (Price) in the quarterbacks meeting, so it was cool just getting to know them.

"Jake is a great player and I think he's going to have a great season. It was great getting to meet him and talk to him."

We'll check back with Kessler soon to see how the recruiting process is moving along and update things as they change.
