Huskies get commit from California wideout

Washington has had a hectic week on the recruiting front and it got some great news Thursday when Gahr (Cerritos, Ca.) WR Josh Perkins decided he'd heard enough and committed to them...

Perkins hauled in 36 catches for 486 yards and led the Gladiators with nine touchdowns.

The talented wideout had offers from Minnesota, New Mexico State, San Diego State and San Jose State and was getting heavy interest from Cal, Oregon State and Washington State among others.

"They were surprised I committed," Perkins said. "They said 'Go Dawgs' and that they were happy I committed and they wanted to welcome me to the family."

Perkins said he plans to trip up to Seattle to take in a day of Washington's Rising Stars camp later this month and that if any other schools come calling, he is going to tell them he's a firm commitment to Washington.

"My family and my coaches both thought this was the best chance for me," Perkins said. "I liked the coaches a lot and felt a real bond with them.

"Coach (Johnny) Nansen is a good guy and I called him this afternoon and he handed the phone to coach (Steve) Sarkisian and I told them I wanted to be a Husky."
