Sample gets closer to decision

He's one of the top safety prospects in the state of California and this weekend, he took an 11-hour bus ride to make it up for Washington's Skill Camp. After showing his skills at the Dempsey Indoor Sunday afternoon he told Dawgman.com that he's getting closer to making his decision known...

"It was a great visit," Sample told Dawgman.com as he rode the bus south back to his hometown of Sacramento. "It was well worth it for me to come up and work for the coaches.

"I had been to Seattle before, when my team played Bellevue last year, but this was the first time I had seen Washington up close and got to talk with the coaches face-to-face.

"It was real good just talking to them and getting coached up by coach (Jeff) Mills. I felt like I did good, but you can always learn new things and getting a feel for the way he coaches was something that helped me see what it would be like if I end up committing there."

Washington has held the top spot for some time with Sample, a physical safety prospect who helped lead Grant on a deep run in the state playoffs with his 111 tackles, one interception, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries -- but he said he's still considering the likes of of the other schools that have offered.

"I'm getting close to making my decision," Sample said. "Washington is my leader, but I want to get home and talk with my family and my coaches about things before I do anything.

"I have offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Nevada, San Diego State and Washington State right now and there are a few more schools that have been recruiting me pretty hard like Cal and Oregon State.

"I think I'll probably know pretty soon where I want to go, but I'm not going to rush into anything."

We'll continue to keep track of Sample and update things as they change regarding his recruitment.
