McClure working on a top 5

One of the main focuses for Washington's 2011 recruiting class has been the corner position. Last season, the Huskies only nabbed one, Crenshaw's Greg Ducre, so the need to take at least two is definitely there. One they have honed in on is Vista (Ca.) CB Stefan McClure and while he hasn't firmed up a date yet, he expects to be in Seattle at some point in September...

"Right now, I'm working on a top five," McClure said. "Washington is definitely in there because they are the school I'm working on setting up my first visit with and UCLA is another school that I'm planning on setting up a visit to go see during the season.

"The others that I'm looking at are Miami, Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona, Colorado, Colorado State, San Diego State and Boise State too."

All of those schools have offered the talented cover corner who recorded over 40 tackles and two interceptions from his corner position while hauling in 35 catches for nearly 500 yards and four touchdowns on offense.

"I'm going to take all of my visits and then sit down with my family and decide where I want to play," McClure said. "I spoke with coach (Demetrice) Martin on Sunday morning actually and we talked about setting up my visit for the game against Syracuse on September 11th and that looks like it will be the weekend I go up there, but it isn't set in stone yet.

"He and I spoke about things and my timeline and he told me they were going to hold a scholarship for me, so that was reassuring."

McClure said the only unofficial visits he plans to take are to UCLA and San Diego State once their fall camps start.

"I can't really be gone for very long, so I'll just go to them because they are local for me," McClure said. "I'll take my dad on some of my visits and my mom on some, so they will both be with me when I sit down with coaches and talk to them."

McClure and his teammates kickoff training camp on August 8th and start their season on September 3rd against Mira Mesa at home.
