Seven Wrestlers Still Alive at NCAAs

West Virginia is in 10th place midway through Day Two of the NCAA Wrestling Championships.

The first session on Day Two featured the championship quarterfinals and action from the consolation brackets.

At 125 pounds, Seth Lisa advanced in the wrestleback with a 7-1 win over Adam Smith of Penn State.

Brandon Lauer suffered his first loss of the tournament at 133, losing an 8-3 decision to EWL rival Rad Martinez of Clarion. Lauer will be in acation again in the wresltebacks later today.

Shane Cunanan continued his outstanding run with a 5-3 overtime victory over Dana Holland of Arizona State to move into the national semifinals of the 141 pound class this evening. Cunanan wrapped up All America honors with the win, and will face Dylan Long of Northern Iown this evening.

Billy Smith defeated Ed Gutnik of Wisconsin 14-4 in the 149 pound consolation bracket to remain alive in the tournament.

Matt Lebe became the second Mountaineer to be knocked out of the tournament, losing in the 157 pound wrestleback to Joe Johnston of Iowa.

WVU is in tenth place with 27 points. The Mountaineers still have seven wrestlers alive in the tournament; Cunanan in the championship bracket and Lisa, Lauer, Smith, Tom McMath, Greg Jones and Brent Miller in the wrestlebacks.
