As has been the case all year, though, WVU's bats came up big to rally the Mountaineers. West Virginia scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth, and added two runs in the sixth to cap off the scoring and give WVU an 8-3 win in the seven inning opener. The big blast in the fifth was third baseman Tim McCabe's three run homer.
Eric Grimm was 3-3 at the plate, including a double. Zac Cline pitched a complete game to get the win, allowing eight hits and striking out three. More importantly, Cline did not walk a batter.
WVU will look for the sweep in the second game of the doubleheader this evening.
