Battle of Toughness

Syracuse is building a program that will present some problems for West Virginia's offense, according to offensive coordinator Jeff Mullen.

Jeff Mullen sees toughness in the Orange team, which, despite suffering a blowout loss to Pitt last week, continued to play hard on every snap.

"They're a blue collar, hard-nosed team," Mullen said. "It doesn't matter that they are up 30 or down 30."

Head coach Bill Stewart has also emphasized that angle, showing his players clips of video from a year ago when the Orange, despite trailing late in the game, continued to compete hard.

"After our 34th point up at the Carrier Dome last year, the Syracuse Orangemen knocked about half our line into the kicker and holder," Stewart related. "After the game, I went up to Coach Marrone and I said, ‘Doug, you're on the right track. Don't change a thing, whatever you're doing. It's good for you, I hate it for us. Whatever you're doing, don't change it.'"

Mullen also noted that no matter what differences Syracuse presents, it is sitll important for the West Virginia offense to "do what it does" and not try to be something it's not.
