Leader Leonard

West Virginia middle linebacker Anthony Leonard is something of an unsung hero, but there's no denying the major impact he has had on the play of the nation's best defense.

Anthony Leonard, who moved from his expected starting spot on the strong side to fill in at the middle spot when Pat Lazear went down with an injury, has been nothing short of excellent this year. He continued that outstanding play against Louisville. Leonard had a team best seven tackles, and set the tone early with three tackles that led to a total shutdown of the Cardinal running game.

That's been a regular, if underappreciated, occurrence this year. The Pennsylvania native has been one of the anchors for defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel, and without him the Mountaineers certainly wouldn't hold the spots in the national rankings they currently occupy.

In this interview, Leonard discusses the way WVU prepared for Louisville's many offensive formations, and the importance of shutting down the run to their defensive strategy.
