Three Honored

Senior linebacker J.T. Thomas led three Mountaineers named to the Big East football awards list following WVU's 35-14 win over Rutgers.

J.T. Thomas won the league's defensive player of the week award for his performance on Senior Day. He led a West Virginia defense that held Rutgers to 203 yards of offense and 14 points, helping the Mountaineers to a share of the Big East title. He finished with seven tackles, including a forced fumble and a 12-yard fumble return in the first quarter that set up the Mountaineers' first touchdown. Thomas leads a West Virginia unit that ranks second nationally in rushing defense (85.1 ypg) and scoring defense (12.8 ppg).

Wide receiver Tavon Austin and quarterback Geno Smith joined Thomas on the league's list, earning honor roll appearances. Austin had six receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown and a 46-yard rushing touchdown on his only carry, while Smith completed 23 of 28 passes for 352 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 44 yards.
