Football Alumni Update

Several Mountaineer football alumni are making their presence felt in professional leagues.

Former wide receiver Shawn Foreman (who played at WVU from 1995-98) is on injured reserve with the Indiana Firebirds after hurting an ankle. Foreman had 19 1/2 tackles and two fumble recoveries from his linebacker spot during his first seven games with the Firebirds before missing the last two contests.

Cecil Doggette, (1990-91), is a defensive specialist with the Grand Rapids Rampage, with the emphasis on speical. Doggette leads the Rampage with 45 tackles, has broken up nine passes, forced two fumbles and recovered another.

Doggette has twice earned All-League honors during his eight year AFL career, and could be headed for more as the spearhead of the Grand Rpaids defense.

Former defensive lineman Tom Briggs (1991-92) is an offensive and defensive lineman for the second year Dallas Desperados, and he's displaying the same intensity that he did as a Mountaineer. Briggs has 7 1/2 sacks and 21 tackles, tops among Dallas defensive linemen. He's also forced a fumble, broken up three passes and recorded a safety as the leader of the Desperado defensive front.

Basil Proctor (1988-89) is a fullback and linebacker for the Tampa Bay Storm. On offense, Proctor has 31 carries for 61 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, Proctor has seven tackles and a sack.

Former Mountaineers Shawn Terry, Corey McIntyre, Wes Ours and Major Harris open their seasons this weekend. We'll provide more updates on all WVU's alumni as the spring and summer progress.
