We've joined forces with the WVU Alumni Association and the Morgantown Touchdown Club this year, and we're going combine our tailgate efforts under the Alumni Association Tent in Tent City, which is in the gravel lot behind the press box side of Mountaineer Field.
The menu will certainly improve with the merger. Instead of our normal fare of hot dogs and hamburgers, the Alumni Association is holding "Jamaicafest" and will be serving jerk chicken, jerk pork and a variety of Jamaican favorite.
The Alumni Association will be asking for a donation of $10 per adult and $5 for each child 10 and under for anyone who wishes to eat. All the proceeds will go to the West Virginia University Office of Social Justice in order to fund a scholarship for a minority student.
So, while there is a cost involved with the food this year, the money will be going to a very good cause.
And while there will be a donation request for the food, as usual, all the conversation will be free and free flowing. Bob Bucy, Greg Hunter, Kevin Kinder and most of the other members of the Blue & Gold News staff will be in attendance, and as is usual at every spring game, the Mountaineer conversation will hot and heavy right up to the 12:30 p.m. kickoff time.
In addition to the food and Mountaineer conversation, the WVU Steel Drum Ensemble will provide the rhythms of the islands, and the WVAQ boombox (FM 101.9) will be broadcasting live during the pregame. While that is all going on, members of the Morgantown Touchdown Club will also be in attendance, heavy in WVU conversation themselves and also passing out information on that organization, which raises money and supports West Virginia University athletics.
It figures to be a wonderful occasion. The festivities get underway at 10:30 a.m. in Tent City, and as always, we encourage all our readers to stop by and say hello. We look forward to seeing you there!
