Quoting his older brother Gerard, the Lower Hudson Journal News reported Thursday that WVU forward Kevin Jones will declare for the NBA Draft but not hire an agent, leaving the possibility open that he could return to Morgantown for his senior season.
A native of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Jones has until May 8 to decide whether he will stay in the draft or withdraw his name from consideration, allowing him to hold onto his last year of college eligibility.
The Journal News reported that Gerard Jones had conversations with NBA scouts at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (a pre-draft event, where Jones' Mountaineer teammate Casey Mitchell impressed) that led him to believe Kevin could be a sought-after player if he entered the draft.
"A lot of scouts are really high on him if he does come out this year," Gerard Jones was quoted as saying in the story.
In the moments immediately following West Virginia's loss to Kentucky in the third round of the NCAA Tournament in March, Jones told reporters he would consider testing the NBA waters.
He was a Big East Conference honorable mention pick after completing his junior season with the Mountaineers, averaging 13.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
