Basketball Gets Junior Commitment

A Virginia guard is West Virginia's first verbal commitment for the class of 2004.

Darris Nichols, a 6-2 170 pound guard from Radford, Virginia, has given WVU a verbal commitment. Nichols will be a senior at Radford High School this year and will attend WVU in the fall of 2004.

Nichols is a lefthanded shooter with excellent range. He averaged 21.7 points and 5.1 assists per game as a junior. Nichols shot 52% from the field and 83% from the foul line.

Nichols was a first-team All-Group A pick, and led his team to the Group A championship game.

Nichols also received interest from Clemson, Virginia Tech, Richmond, Georgia Tech and Virginia, among others.
