West Back On The Job

West Virginia and NBA legend Jerry West has often spoken of a restless inability to sit back and relax, and that trait was shown again today when it was announced that he will become an adviser and executive board member for the Golden State Warriors,

West, who is approaching his 73rd birthday, will assist the Warriors in both basketball and business operations, according to an Associated Press report. He will not be in a primary decision making role, but instead is slated to serve in an advisory capacity.

West was a general manager for both the Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies. He joins a Warriors franchise that is in transition, having undergone a recent ownership change and currently in a coaching search.

In a prepared statement, West appeared to relish the new challenge.

"I'm excited about this opportunity and, quite frankly, humbled that the new ownership group with the Warriors inquired about my interest in joining the organization in this capacity," West said. "I've had the good fortune to work for two wonderful owners, Dr. Jerry Buss and Michael Heisley, as an executive and I know that you must have a commitment at the top to succeed.

"I sense that is certainly the case with the Warriors or I would not have made this decision."
