Sources: Negotiations Not Active

Three sources with knowledge of the situation have informed that negotiations for a buyout of Bill Stewart's contract are not underway at this time between West Virginia University and Stewart.

The denials came on the heels of a tweet from a Huntington-based media member who said that a $600,000 buyout could occur as soon as Friday. Those denials were strenuous on the point that no activity has taken place between the University and Stewart or his representatives as it would relate to a firing or buyout. According to multiple sources, no offers of a buyout have been made to Stewart.

This would not preclude the development of a plan on the part of the University to make an offer, but as of Thursday afternoon, no negotiations or discussions had taken place, according to three different sources.

Stewart continues to work under the terms of the modified agreement he signed with West Virginia on Nov. 17, 2010. He has been paid the $750,000 that he was due as spelled out in Item #4 of the modified agreement.

Attempts to reach Director of Athletics Oliver Luck for comments were unsuccessful. University President Jim Clements was reported out of town from much of the day.
