With a short, two-sentence announcement, Branko Busick's tenure with the Mountaineer football team has ended.

In a statement released by the WVU Sports Information Office, West Virginia University Football Coach Dana Holgorsen announced that redshirt sophomore Branko Busick has been dismissed from the Mountaineer football program for violation of team rules. According to the release, no further comment on the situation will be made.

While the announcement did not mention Busick's arrest on charges of armed robbery on July 11, that was obviously the precipitation for the dismissal. Busick was arrested on Monday evening and transported to North Central Regional Jail, where he was freed on Tuesday after a bond in the amount of $25,000 was posted.

A preliminary hearing for Busick was set for August 1, just days before the Mountaineer team is set to open fall practice. Busick was competing for playing time at middle linebacker after a promising start to his Mountaineer career -- one that is now over.
