Revving Up

West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith and receiver Tavon Austin are included on the inaugural Pony Express Award Watch List, which formally launched today.

Smith and Austin are one of just two Big East groups on the watch list, which include two- and three-player groupings from across the nation. The Award will be bestowed on the combination whose work ethic, desire, on- and off-field leadership and playmaking ability best fuel their team.

Austin and Smith are expected to form a pitch and catch duo that will immediately thrive in head coach Dana Holgorsen's uptempo offense.

A total of 50 player groups are included on the Watch List for the inaugural Award. The award, begun by SMU's Pony Express backfield of Craig James and Eric Dickerson, will be voted on by a blue ribbon panel of experts that will form the award's board of directors. The award will be announced at the conclusion of the 2011 regular season.
