Rine, Miller Nab Big East Awards

West Virginia's strong stretch run is finally attracting some notice, as both a Mountaineer pitcher and position player earned Big East Player of the Week honors.

Junior centerfielder Jarod Rine helped the Mountaineers record two wins in their only games of last week. The junior led off the first game of a doubleheader with Villanova by hitting a home run. In the second game he was 4-for-5 with an inside-the-park home run and four RBI. In the two contests, he slugged 1.556 and scored four runs. Rine was 6-for-9 (.667) with four extra-base hits (two doubles and two home runs).

On the mound, righthander Shawn Miller threw a four-hit complete-game shutout against Villanova in a 4-0 victory whihc clinched a Big East tournament appearance for WVU. The sophomore did not allow a walk, while striking out two in seven innings of work. Miller has not allowed an earned run in his last 25 innings pitched.
