Football Honorees Named

Dana Holgorsen announced West Virginia's top honorees for the 2011 football season in a fashion appropriate for a man known for downing the energy drink Red Bull: in all caps on his Twitter account.

WVU's permanent captains (elected at the end of the season, as the Mountaineers use "game captains" throughout the year) were Geno Smith, Don Barclay, Keith Tandy and Najee Goode, the coach announced.

Offensive player of the year honors went to receiver Tavon Austin, while Goode, a senior linebacker, collected the defensive player of the year award. Long-snapper Cody Nutter was named special teams player of the year.

Those further down the depth chart also got their bit of recognition with the naming of scout team players of the year. The offensive award went to West Virginia native Cody Clay, while defensive back Ismail Showell garnered defensive honors.
