Michigan State Series Axed

West Virginia's nonconference scheduling issues that resulted from the school's move to the Big 12 are nearly solved, as the Mountaineers' 2014-15 series with Michigan State has been canceled, according to the Spartans' athletic director Mark Hollis.

Hollis tweeted Tuesday afternoon that his school will face Oregon in 2014-15. The series with the Ducks, he indicated, would place one that had previously been scheduled with West Virginia.

According to Hollis' tweet, the games involving the Mountaineers were canceled "due to [WVU's] transition to the Big 12."

Indeed, with the Spartans off the schedule for 2014 and 2015, WVU's nonconference scheduling problems related to that move to the Big 12 are all but over.

West Virginia, which had to cancel one game per year for the next four seasons to accommodate the nine-game conference schedule the Big 12 utilizes, previously canceled a 2012 contest at Florida State.

With the Michigan State series knocked off the calendar for 2014 and 2015, the only year that remains an issue is 2013. That problem would be alleviated if Florida State sees fit to return the favor and cancel its scheduled trip to Morgantown for that season.
