Forsythe To Transfer

A brief press release from West Virginia's sports information office confirmed what was rumored earlier Thursday: Pat Forsythe is leaving the Mountaineer men's basketball program.

Mike Casazza of the Charleston Daily Mail reported via Twitter that Mountaineer coach Bob Huggins only learned of Forsythe's decision to transfer when he spoke to Akron's coach, and not from Forsythe himself.

Tweets from various outlets earlier Thursday indicated Akron was Forsythe's likely destination, but a three-sentence statement issued by WVU did not indicate where the redshirt freshman would be headed.

A 6-foot-11 center, Forsythe sat out the majority of his true freshman season with multiple injuries, including back spasms and, more seriously, a stress fracture in his right ankle. He averaged 2.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in his seven appearances.

Forsythe is the seventh player out of 18 signed by Huggins starting with the 2009 recruiting class to either transfer out of the program or otherwise fail to appear in a game due to either medical issues, personal ones or an inability to qualify academically.
