WVU 11th in AP Poll

West Virginia just missed out on a top ten ranking in the initial Associated Press Top 25 football poll for 2012, finishing 11th in the voting released today.

WVU totaled 856 points in the voting. Arkansas grabbed the 10th position with 963 points. The Mountaineers are followed by Wisconsin at number 12 with 838 points.

In all, six Big 12 teams hold down positions in the poll, tying the SEC for most league teams. Oklahoma (#4), Texas #15), Oklahoma State (#19), TCU (#20) and Kansas State (#22) join WVU in the rankings.

WVU's #11 ranking matches its spot in the USAToday Top 25 poll, released earlier this month. Mitch Vingle of the Charleston Gazette, the lone voter in the poll within WVU's coverage footprint, voted the Mountaineers #11.
