Making (And Getting) The Call

West Virginia is the latest of a number of schools to offer dual-threat quarterback William Ulmer, who said he was elated to get the call from the Mountaineers.

Little did Ulmer know when he decided to call the WVU coaches that he would be the recipient of a scholarship offer by the end of the conversation. However, that's exactly what happened.

"I called the coaches after we'd had conversations on Facebook and they offered me," Ulmer said. "Just about the whole staff jumped on the call and told me they loved me and wanted to offer. They said they had been watching my film and wanted to make the offer."

With the offer firmly in hand, Ulmer admits his excitement surrounding the Mountaineers has been elevated.

"I'm very excited about the offer," Ulmer said. "I'm blessed to have the opportunity to potentially play at a school like West Virginia. I like it, it's a good fit, so I'm interested."

New West Virginia wide receivers coach Lonnie Galloway is leading the charge in Ulmer's recruitment.

"He's a good guy," Ulmer said. We stay in contact a lot. He recruited (former WVU wide receiver) Tavon Austin ....which is cool. To have him recruiting me is exciting."

The three-star believes he'd be a perfect fit in the Mountaineers spread offense.

"The offense is so fast," he said. They are fast with the ball. I think I could be a good fit in that offense. I consider myself a play-maker who likes to have the ball in my hands. So whether I am throwing the ball or running it I just like to have the ball in my hands."

With a dozen offers already in hand, and increased interest from additional schools, Ulmer is enjoying the process and taking things slow.

"I'm pretty open in my recruitment at the moment," Ulmer said. I haven't narrowed any schools down into a top group or anything like that."

With West Virginia being in close proximity to his home, Ulmer plans on visiting WVU this summer, a place he's already visited twice before.

"It's only like two hours away from home," Ulmer said. "So I'm not sure when, maybe this summer, but I'll be down to visit soon."
