Inside Forces

Brandon Watkins and Devin Williams continued to show their potential with excellent performances in the Pittsburgh ProAm Summer League on Wednesday night.

Watkins had his biggest game of the summer, scoring 24 points on 11-19 shooting from the field to help Oliverio's Peppers to a 76-72 win over GNC. The freshman canned both of his free throws and added a rebound and an assist to his scoring total, which was the high mark for all players on the evening.

Teammates Terry Henderson and Nathan Adrian also contributed in the win. Adrian, pegged as a perimeter player, recorded eight rebounds and dished out three assists while making 2-5 from the three-point line on the way to his eight points. He has clearly gained some weight and strength since the end of his high school season, and while he's by no means a bruiser, might be better equipped to handle contact and get boards when he does move inside.

Henderson had an off shooting night, making only three of his 11 tries from the field (1-3 from three), but added four rebounds and three assists to his seven total points.

An undermanned Lair team, minus the presence of Eron Harris, fell to South Hills Audi 94-71, but it wasn't the fault of Williams. He continued his impressive play with 20 points and four rebounds, converting 8-12 from the field and 4-7 from the free throw line.

Richard Romeo added two points and Chase Connor a rebound for The Lair.

Wednesday night's action concluded the round-robin portion of the Summer League. Playoffs for next week are now set, with The Lair facing UPMC at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July, 22, followed by Oliverio's Peppers against PGT at 9:00.

Win would advance the teams to semifinal action on Tuesday, July 23, while a loss ends their participation.
