Carter Makes Call

Following a visit to West Virginia over the Aug.30 weekend, Jevon Carter committed to the Mountaineer program on Sept. 10.

Carter, who bonded quickly with guards Terry Henderson and Eron Harris on the visit, liked West Virginia's straightforward approach, and the opportunity to get early playing time. West Virginia point guards Gary Browne and Juwan Staten will both be seniors when Carter arrives, giving him the chance to learn the ropes and then compete for a starting slot in his sophomore season.

Carter burst onto the scene a year ago, banding with a number of seniors at Proviso East High School to earn a state tournament berth. He also played with Next Level Performance on the AAU circuit, winning the 17 and under national championship in Orlando over the summer.

Carter had offers from Lehigh, LaSalle, Valparaiso, Toledo, Akron and Illinois State, and was planning to visit at least some of those schools before committing to WVU.
