TRIVIA

Baylor is currently riding a seven game winning streak. What is BU's longest all-time winning run, and who stopped it?

BREAKING UP ISN'T HARD TO DO

Despite playing far fewer snaps than most of his secondary teammates, true freshman Daryl Worley leads the Mountaineeer squad in pass breakups with four. The aggressive defensive back has shown great instincts and timing in arriving at the receiver just as the ball does, and he's separated opponents from the rock with several big hits.

West Virginia's coaching staff isn't rushing Worley just yet, and the merits of limiting freshmen until they get comfortable are understandable. However, it seems clear at this point that the Phildelphia native isn't your average freshman. He's playing a couple of different roles in the Mountaineers' passing down defensive alignments. Is it time to elevate him to a starting role, or at least give him more time as a cornerback in regular defensive sets?

FIRST AND LAST

This will be West Virginia's first trip to Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco, and also its last. The Bears are opening a new stadium (Baylor Stadium; presumably until a title sponsor is landed) next year on the banks of the Brazos River, which is next to the campus and will make for a much better gameday atmosphere, according to most accounts.

For those clamoring for a new stadium for WVU, know that the new facility on the Brazos will cost at least $260 million.

HOT PASS

Against Oklahoma State, Cody Clay had three catches for 27 yards. While those aren't massive numbers, they do signal the potential for a developing weapon in the Mountaineer offense.

Those who watched Clay in high school know that he has good hands, and he showed that with his receptions against the Cowboys. A couple of those came as he slipped by a defender and then screened him away from the ball, producing first downs.

These catches could make Clay a target on one of WVU's pet plays – the run/pass option where the quarterback reads a linebacker and then either hands off to a waiting back or throws it to a slot receiver running a slant or stick route into the 'backer's area. If the linebacker comes up to defend the run, the throw is the play. If he sits back in coverage, the handoff occurs.

With Clay, WVU can also run the play with him as the receiving option from a tight end spot, which he did on at least one occasion against OSU. The Mountaineers could also make it a double option route, with Clay running it from one side and a slot receiver from the other, with each targeting a lienbacker on his side of the field.

ONE MORE...

We know you are probably sick of Baylor offensive statistics by now, but this one stands even taller than the achievements of the 2013 season. The Bears have gained at least 400 yards of orffense in 30 consecutive games, and are averaging 597 yards per game since 2011. That shows that coach Art Briles has been a) recruiting well, and b) can adapt to changing personnel.

The last time BU failed to reach the 400-yard plateau was Nov. 20, 2010 against Oklahoma, when the Sooners limited the Bears to 361 yards.

REDSHIRT PARADE

While many programs are playing more true freshman, Art Briles and Baylor are trending in the opposite direction. Over the past four seasons, Baylor's roster has included 22, 22, 20 and 23 redshirt freshmen. Last season, just three true freshmen saw the field for the Bears.

TRIVIA ANSWER

The Bears won ten consecutive games over the 1936-37 seasons before Texas upended them 9-6. Their second-longest run (nine games) was ended in last year's scoreboard explosion at Mountaineer Field, when WVU recorded its first-ever Big 12 win in the 70-63 epic.
