WVU Varsity Sports Update

West Virginia University women's basketball senior center Asya Bussie has been named the Varsity Sports Report Athlete of the Week.

Bussie was named the Most Valuable Player of the game at the Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic on Saturday. The Randallstown, Md., native recorded 16 points, along with two other Mountaineers, to co-lead WVU's scoring efforts. Bussie had 10 of her 16 points in the second half, and also added five rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks to her stat line in 28 minutes. Bussie leads WVU in blocked shots this season with 17, while averaging 13.0 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game as WVU's rebounding leader.

This Week in Women's Basketball

WVU will face Delaware State in a midweek matchup on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum ... the Mountaineers will then take to the road for a 2 p.m. tip at Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Saturday.

The Mountaineers defeated Marshall, 82-51, Saturday at the Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic ... the win was WVU's ninth consecutive Capital Classic victory over the Thundering Herd.
