Keith Patterson, in the midst of a giant rebuilding process as West Virginia's defensive coordinator, is reportedly in discussions to join head coach Todd Graham's staff at Arizona State. Multiple sources from both states indicate that Patterson could accept a coaching spot with the Sun Devils as early as today.
Patterson was not seen at West Virginia's football facility on Wednesday, when other coaches were made available for interviews around national signing day events.
Arizona State currently has only one opening on its staff. Joe Lorig, the team's cornerbacks coach and special teams coordinator, is set to take a job with Utah State. A move into that position would be a downgrade for Patterson, who has served as a coordinator for the past two seasons. However, one source with knowledge of the situation anticipated a creative solution on the part of Arizona State head coach Todd Graham to add Patterson as a coordinator. Former WVU assistant Paul Randolph is currently in that role at ASU.
Unconfirmed reports had Patterson in Arizona on Wednesday.
