Spurgeon shot as a member of the counting team in both guns. On Friday, March 14, he shot 585 in smallbore and led the Mountaineers in the individual final, placing second overall in the discipline with a score of 451.6.
On Saturday, March 15, the Canton, Mo., native helped WVU to a 4705 team aggregate (2338 smallbore, 2367 air rifle) score, shooting 591 in air rifle and 143.5 in the individual final, placing fifth overall. Also on Saturday, Spurgeon was named to the NRA Air Rifle and Smallbore First Teams, as well as the CRCA All-America First Team. He now owns five career All-America honors, including four first-team awards.

The Mountaineers are off this week … six members of the men's swimming team will be traveling to Austin, Texas on March 27-29 for the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships ... junior Tim Squires will compete in the 50 and 100 free and senior Bryce Bohman will compete in the 100 and 200 back, while all five of the relay teams were also invited to the NCAA Championships.
