Visit Key To McKivitz Decision

Union Local (Ohio) junior offensive lineman Colton McKivitz believed his recruitment was finished when he committed to Miami (Ohio) in early May, but he said that West Virginia remained under consideration throughout the process.

With the Mountaineers still making an impression, McKivitz decided to make another visit to WVU. That trip, which confirmed some of the items he liked about West Virginia, played a key role in his switch.

"WVU was always on my mind during all of my recruitment,"McKivitz said. "So I took another trip there and that convinced me that WVU is where I wanted to be."

With his latest reversal of schools his last, McKivitz considers his recruitment "closed" and is excited about moving forward as a member of the Mountaineer program.

"I'm just really excited about joining the WVU family," McKivitz explained. "Coach (Dana) Holgorsen and Coach (Ron) Crook were really happy that I'll be a part of the football family."

McKivitz (6'7, 275 lbs.) had witnessed his recruitment skyrocket over the last several weeks. In addition to West Virginia, he added offers from Virginia, Marshall, Bowling Green, Kent State, Akron and Toledo.

"Things have really heated up for me," McKivitz said. "But I'm firmly committed to WVU."

McKivitz is rated a three-star prospect by Scout.com.
