Nick O'Toole's mortar-like shots, combined with his 1970s era facial hair, gave him the nickname "Boomstache" a year ago, and he's back in the spotlight in the preseason with a spot on the Ray Guy Awrad watch list.
In 2013, O'Toole not only averaged 44.1 yards per attempt, but also got off 26 boots of 50+ yards while putting 22 of his 73 attempts inside opponents' 20-yard line. He had just five touchbacks, and might have been West Virginia's second best offensive weapon.
Coming off that performance, it's no surprise to see O'Toole on the list, which is given to the best punter in the nation. He will face stiff competition from fellow Big 12 punters Spencer Roth of Baylor and Trevor Pardula of Kansas, both of whom also had stellar 2013 seasons.
The league has been a fertile ground for punters, with four winning the Guy Arward since its inception. The award winner will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 11.
