Spain Named to Lombardi Watch List

For the second time in less than a week, West Virginia offensive lineman Quinton Spain's name appeared on a preseason watch list - listing him among the nation's best heading into the 2014 season.

After being named to the Outland Trophy Watch List, an award given to the nation's best interior lineman each season, Spain was on the watch list for the Lombardi Trophy when it was announced Monday.

Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense or defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, or linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage. This year's watch list includes 123 players, and includes 15 players from the Big 12.

The 6-foot-5, 332-pound offensive guard is expected to anchor the West Virginia offensive line after earning all-Big 12 honorable mention as a junior. Spain started every game for the second season in a row for the Mountaineers.

The Rotary Lombardi Watch List will be periodically updated and revised through the conclusion of the voting to determine the 12 Semifinalists for 2014. The winner will be announced Dec. 10, 2014 in Houston.
