Knapper Commits To WVU

With an important recruiting weekend ongoing in Morgantown, the West Virginia men's hoops team snared a commitment for the class of 2017.

West Virginia earned a commitment from an in-state player on Saturday when South Charleston (W.Va.) guard Brandon Knapper verbally pledged to the Mountaineers.

“Yes, I have committed to WVU,” Knapper confirmed to BlueGoldNews.com. “I am very excited.”

Knapper, 5-foot-11, 160 pounds, also held offers from East Tennessee State and Marshall in addition to interest from North Carolina State, Virginia and Maryland. While Knapper is scheduled to graduate from South Charleston in 2016, he will take a year at a prep school following that year and enroll at West Virginia in the fall of 2017. He is the second in-state player this year to commit to WVU, joining Chase Harler, who is a member of the class of 2016.

West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins made Knapper a priority this summer, first extending an offer, then seeing the talented guard on campus multiple times. He competed at the Mountaineers' elite camp in August.

As a sophomore, Knapper averaged 20 points and five assists per game for South Charleston. He was elected to the class AAA first-team all state team.

BlueGoldNews.com will have more with Knapper and his commitment soon.
