Backups Key In Baylor Win

A few key injuries early in the Baylor game forced many WVU backups into play. The team consistently preaches "next man up," and Saturday a few next men up had to fill some gaps -- and did so with outstanding results..

Rushel Shell was taken into the locker room early in the game with a foot injury, and the depth at running back was once again tested. Time and time again different backs answered, and Dreamius Smith was one who met the call on Saturday. The senior has not seen the field very much in recent games, but when his number was called he was ready. Smith rushed the ball for 60 total yards, and had a nice nine-yard scamper into the end zone.

Maybe the biggest gap that needed to be filled came after both Daryl Worley and Terrell Chestnut were ruled out for the game before halftime. Junior cornerback Ricky Rumph, entered the game and did everything expected of him. Baylor took shots at Rumph early, but his six solo tackles and solid coverage down the field forced the Bears to shy away.

Again, Andrew Buie came up big late in the game. Buie finished the day with only 24 rushing yards, but totaled 63 receiving yards. His 42-yard catch up the seam helped lead to a WVU touchdown just a play later.
