Holgorsen worked as the offensive coordinator under Sumlin when both were at Houston. The geographical location was an obvious tie with former WVU Director of Athletics Oliver Luck, and the inquiry was made to Sumlin about Holgorsen's skillset and ability to be a head coach. Sumlin's affirmation boosted Holgorsen's status with Luck, and eventually was key to his hiring.
Here, Holgorsen speaks to that aspect, as well as talking about the continually improving play of Howard, a Mountaineer defense that he says could be even better next season under coordinator Tony Gibson, a review of the lead-up - and build-up - to the bowl and why he has been so pleased with the entire team approach during the month of non-action. Holgorsen also discusses offensive line play, the quarterback-wideout relationship and continuity, and gives insights as to his thoughts on a new offensive coordinator hire and how he will approach filling the position.
