WVU Introduces Lyons As AD

West Virginia officially introduced Shane Lyons as its 12th Director of Athletics. Here, the Parkersburg native details the Mountaineer athletic department, his initial plans and implementation and his overall goals for WVU as it moves forward within the Big 12 and on a national stage.

University President E. Gordon Gee introduced Lyons, noting his background, accomplishments and personal values and traits. Gee also spoke to Lyons' vision for West Virginia, as well as his process of selection and what Gee and the WVU board most liked about Lyons.

Lyons, who like head basketball coach Bob Huggins began his introductory remarks with the phrase "It's good to be home," discussed his overall approach, his first 90 to 120 days, what he sees as the most pressing concerns for WVU and its athletic department, his focus and attention on student-athletes and his ideals on the nearly $80 million budget with which the school will work.

Lyons then answered questions from the media, including his thoughts on West Virginia and its challenges with an ever-changing NCAA landscape, his thoughts on facilities upgrades and updates and his ideals for moving the department forward with an all-hand-on-board approach.
