WVU Recruiting: Weekend Visitor Preview

It what could be deemed the biggest recruiting weekend of the year, West Virginia will play host to a large group of official visitors today through Sunday. BlueGoldNews.com breaks down each of the prospects scheduled to be on campus.

Jordan Adams, ATH, Reisterstown (Md.)

BGN Breakdown: Having been committed to the Mountaineers for almost one full year, Adams is solid in his pledge and anticipates being in Morgantown this summer.

Jacquez Adams, ATH, Reisterstown (Md.)

BGN Breakdown: Similar to his brother, Jordan, Jacquez is firmly committed to the Mountaineers. He’s expected to arrive on campus this summer.

Alec Shriner, DT, Oviedo (Fla.)

BGN Breakdown: Shriner makes the trek north this weekend for his official visit to West Virginia. He remains firmly committed to the Mountaineers and plans no additional visits to other programs.

Matt Jones, OL, Hubbard (Oh.)

BGN Breakdown: Jones was one of the earliest commitment for the Mountaineers and has never wavered on his pledge. He's expected to arrive on campus this summer.

David Long, LB, Cincinnati (Oh.)

BGN Breakdown: Long has been a firm commitment to West Virginia for some time and has been quite the recruiter for the Mountaineers among the commitments. He's expected to arrive on campus this summer.

Antonio Callaway, WR, Miami (Fla.)

BGN Breakdown: Callaway visited Miami (Fla.) last weekend and many consider the hometown Hurricanes to be the favorite. The Mountaineers are making a late push for wide receivers in this class and Callaway definitely fits the bill. He plans to visit Georgia on the 30th with a decision expected on signing day.

Rob Dowdy, OT, Westerville (Oh.)

BGN Breakdown: Dowdy is back on the mark after de-committing from Pittsburgh last month. The Mountaineers appear to be the frontrunners in his recruitment, leading Florida, Kentucky and N.C. State.

Gary Jennings, WR, Stafford (Va.)

BGN Breakdown: Jennings lists West Virginia, Virginia, Notre Dame and North Carolina as his top schools, with many calling the Cavaliers as the leader in the clubhouse. Having visited Charlottesville last weekend, the Mountaineers need to make up ground quickly.

Kahlil Welsh, DT, Jacksonville (Fla.)

BGN Breakdown: Shortly after the recruiting dead period ended Welsh became one of the hottest commodities on the recruiting circuit. He’s currently committed to Wake Forest but will also take an official visit to Florida next weekend. He does not hold a current offer from the Gators.

Shaquery Wilson, WR, Coral Gables (Fla.)

BGN Breakdown: Despite his pledge to Georgia, Wilson is seriously considering the Mountaineers in large part because of their offense. The Bulldogs have been noncommittal about using him solely on offense but more as an athlete.

Mark Walton, RB, Miami (Fla.)

BGN Breakdown: The Miami (Fla.) running back commit continues to explore his options despite his verbal commitment to the Hurricanes. And while it’s considered to be a long shot plucking him away from south beach the Mountaineers have made it clear he’s a top priority.
