WVU Ballpark Update

With its first game coming up at the end of the week, it's hard to believe that it is almost time for the start of the West Virginia baseball season.

The Mountaineers will play their first home game, which is scheduled to be played at the new Monongalia County Ballpark, against Waynesburg on March 17.

With the start of the home schedule getting closer and closer, the new stadium is getting closer to completion and West Virginia is expecting to have its home field ready to go for that opener and for the rest of its home games during the 2014 season.

WVU was picked to finish sixth in the Big 12 Conference even though it lost a handful of its most productive players from last year's team that came up just short of an NCAA tournament bid to the professional ranks.

West Virginia head coach Randy Mazey discussed what he called his toughest rebuilding job last week and discussed more about potentially moving the start of the college baseball season up to later in the year to make it easier for eastern teams that are still battling through bad weather during the start of the season.
