Rifle Team Brings Home More Championships

West Virginia's rifle team is a dynasty. The team has accumulated a nation's best 17 total national championships, including the past three in a row. The latest titlists, along with their head coach, Jon Hammond, recapped their year and their experience in Alaska, where they defeated the homestanding UA Nanooks to bring home the trophy.

Jon Hammond is in his ninth season as head coach at West Virginia. The Scotland native has led the Mountaineers to four total championships, including three in a row since the beginning of the 2012 season. Hammond speaks about the latest championship his team won just three days ago.

Those who represented the Mountaineers in the championship included Micheal Bamsey, Ziva Dvorsak, Thomas Kyanko, Garrett Spurgeon and Maren Prediger.

WVU defeated the University of Alaska Fairbanks by the final score of 4702 to 4700. The championship is a two day competition, and after the end of the first day the Mountaineers were sitting in second. But after tallying scores of 598 from Prediger, 596 from Spurgeon and 594 from Dvorsak, the Mountaineers were able to complete a comeback to earn yet another National Championship.
