Tyler (Tx.) J.C. offensive lineman Craig Smith will make an official visit to West Virginia this weekend, and despite earning a late offer, he and the Mountaineer coaching staff have formed quite the relationship.
To be clear, the Mountaineers had zero contact with the 6-foot-7, 320-pound, junior college standout until they made an offer two weeks ago. Now, an official visit is set for this weekend -- one that Smith is anticipating greatly.
“I’m looking forward to seeing their facilities and getting more in-depth academically with the advisors,” Smith said. “But most importantly I’m wanting to see if it’s somewhere I would be comfortable and feel at home.”
Leading the charge in Smith’s recruitment is new West Virginia offensive coordinator Joe Wickline. He, along with other members of the Mountaineer coaching staff, visited Smith earlier this week.
“It went great,” Smith told BlueGoldNews.com earlier this week. “I’m looking forward to my visit this weekend.”
Smith plans to make a final decision on signing day and choose between West Virginia, South Florida and UCF. He had committed to USF earlier this month before adding visits and apparently rethinking that pledge.
