Four Star Linebacker Brendan Ferns Makes West Virginia His Signing Day Choice

There probably couldn't have been a better start to the morning of Football National Signing Day for West Virginia.

Soon after the 7:00 a.m. opening of the first day on which binding National Letters of Intent can be received, four-star linebacker Brendan Ferns, who was the subject of a protracted recruiting battle, committed to the Mountaineer program. Ferns, rated as the #7 linebacker in the nation by, provides a capstone to an already-excellent linebacking class for WVU, which includes Logan ThimonsZach Sandwisch and Adam Hensley.

Ferns, who avoided most interviews and is not a social media user, saw interest in his recruitment rise to high levels, perhaps in part due to that approach. While he didn't cultivate that interest, and wanted to take as much time as possible to consider all of his offers, scrutiny from fans of West Virginia and Penn State, his two finalists, reached peak levels.

With the commitment, Ferns joins Steven SmothersJustin Crawford and Kyzir White as four-star pledges in the West Virginia class.
